Júlio Lobo, creative and visual director

I learnt photography at the Escola Profissional de Imagem and in 2013 joined Global Imagens as a photojournalist, on political, sporting and social reportage and assignments for Diário de Notícias, Jornal de Notícias and O Jogo. In 2014 I spent three months in Rome at 10b Photography, and The Guardian put my photographs of the Lumina Light Festival in a top ten.

Then the picture began to move. I taught myself to film, and at the start of 2017 I joined Observador to make video: festivals, interviews and the political series Carpool. I had been freelancing for Other Features on and off, and at the end of that year I began working with them on festivals, music videos and corporate films. I was cinematographer and editor on Noite Viva, a play with a film inside it, for Teatro Aberto.

Editing became my trade. I cut commercials, music videos and branded content for production companies such as FIM (Forever in Movies) and Still. In 2019 Manifesto Corpos, for Danone, was named best feminist campaign by Meios & Publicidade.

Since 2022 I have taken on whole projects, sometimes as editor and sometimes as director, and rhythm is what runs through all of them. That same year I went back to the Escola Profissional de Imagem, this time as a guest trainer.
